I don’t think the movie was terrible. I’d say, far from. For what the movie is, I think it was fantastic! I thought it was brilliant. I personally didn’t mind the approach Todd Philips decided to take. I don’t think this film was made with the intent to thrill or disappoint fans, even though it appears many fans are disappointed. I believe Todd knew exactly what he was doing, and I think it’s genius !
A scene that stood out to me was in the courtroom when Arthur decided not to identify with Joker, and chooses to be truly vulnerable. We see all his supporters leave the courtroom as everyone is disappointed and essentially didn’t get what they want. I almost feel like that can be alluded to the audience that watched this movie. 🤷♂️. Even when Arthur got “rescued” by the person dressed as the Joker. And he screams “I love you” as Arthur is running away from the Joker. Arthur still made the conscious choice to disassociate with the character.. aka his shadow which we see in the animation in the beginning of the film. I think ultimately, Arthur chose to be himself, rather than what people wanted him to be :/ and to me that’s a rare choice in society, and I think that really shows the strength of Arthur. People say he has no arch. But he literally threw out everything that could’ve “saved” him.. for true accountability. RARE.
Side note: I have a hard time articulating my thoughts. I know I’m probably gonna get negative comments like cringe or whatever :/ but tbh. I’m here to discuss the film and my thoughts the best of my ability.
