Some advice for new SLs, this game is an RTS not an FPS.

I'm beginning to stop SLing so much these days/stopped playing squad so much these days (used to play about 80 hours a fortnight according to steam lol). Figured I would hand down some advice for the new players who want to SL.

8 out of 10 times the team with the mostest habs and ammo wins.

Back caps win games, but don't do it with a logi go set up a hab in the middle of the map instead. Back caps are important because whoever has a lead on the cap times at the middle of the map will have an easier chance to win the mid cap.

When you do set up for mid caps at the beginning of the game put a hab down couple hundred meters away from potential mid cap and pull back then set another one up. More habs, more better...er. Heck I'll take 1800 build at the start of the game, put down 2 habs then flank around and put down another hab behind the enemy lines then I ask one of the small vics to unload their ammo before they rush off inevitably down the main road and get wiped off the face of the earth.

Don't forget to put down rallies either on the radio if you are putting down a hab further from the radio or just a couple hundred meters away from the hab in the opposite direction the enemies are coming from. AND KEEP AN EYE ON IT! It's a 50 ammo enemy proximity sensor! Use it to see if an ninjaneer is sneaking up on your radio or they are flanking your hab.

On most maps, except maps like Mestia, you can usually squeeze in 3 habs around a point. Like I said before, more habs the more betterer. Habs don't need to be on point, in fact never have it directly on point especially if it's the only hab. I only squeeze a hab on to a point IF we already have 2 habs we can fall back to if the on point hab gets taken.

Some times it's not worth putting the hab far away from the radio, it might be nice to just have the radio go down when the hab goes down so you can quickly sneak in another hab close by again. Though it's nice if you can block in the radio with the hab placement so they have to dig down the hab fully to get to the radio.

Even if you are putting the hab inside a building it might be worth finding a nice bush and putting the radio in a random spot. They are still equally a bitch to spot from the UAV and people are more inclined to look inside structures for radios.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS underestimate your team and overestimate your enemies. Flank deeper, assume no one knows how to put down a hab and that no one is going to defend.

I always pretend blueberries are like automatically spawning pawns in an RTS game wherever you put down a hab. They just come with some special rules.

  • They will always spawn at the nearest hab to the active point (with a few exception) and run to the nearest point in a straight line. That's why it's important to put habs in more than one place because now they will be attacking from more than 1 angle.

  • They will spawn at a new hab if the old one runs out of ammo, so use this to trick them into spawning into new habs. (Also stash like 100 ammo in a broken down transport truck or something just for your squad's AT and your rally).

  • If there is no hab to spawn on near an active point they will spawn at the one 2000 meters away and start running instead of waiting for the one coming up in the next 30 seconds, so learn to predict your habs life spans. I usually can guess the "Game long life span" habs vs "15 minute lifespan" and "IT'S GONNA LAST FOR 3 MINUTES AT BEST EVERYONES SPAWN AT THIS ONE" hab.

  • Sometimes it's worth risking your life and a logi to sneak in a hab behind the enemy hab in order to make sure the blueberries overwhelm the enemy hab before moving onto point.

It's usually worthwhile to drive an extra 3~5 minutes to make sure you can flank around the enemies in a safe manner. Make sure to wave at the enemy SL and logi driver that's doing the same thing to you on your way.

In terms of priority of habs it goes defense hab -> back up defense hab 1/2 -> attack hab -> back up attack hab -> flank hab -> just yeet the damn logi into the point hab. Unless you are deep in enemy lines it's going to be worth making sure that habs are up in it's priority. Don't go attacking if you haven't stabilised your defense. Strong defense gives you the piece of mind to go frolicking off elsewhere.

Make sure your logi doesn't get stolen. Don't let SQ2SL take your logi after he left his logi next to the radio on the only radio he put down the entire game. He's gonna do the same shit. Tell him to fuck right off and rescue his old one or get someone to blow it up.

Except in very rare situations, "Super FOBS" are absolutely a waste of time. Just use those builds to put up more habs around the damn point instead.

Unless you know the pilot super well, just don't trust them. It's easier to sneak a logi around and you have a lot more control.

If someone doesn't listen after asking multiple times, just kick em. You don't gotta put up with them and they have no obligation to be in your squad either. I don't mind people without mics for the most, long as they do as told. You will have new players joining you too, just explain things to them. Unload the build first, etc.

Personally, I drive myself but I've become used to passing around FTLs, marking stuff on the map and looking at the map at the same time as driving. I just find it easier to be disappointed in myself compared to someone else.

Just remember shit will go wrong no matter how good your plan is. I can't count the number of times I did a 10 minute flank run just to run into a random BTR on it's way back to main.

Hope this helps anyone, got nothing in terms of playing vics personally.

Remember, mo habs, mo better.
