Something I've thought about a lot. Most times when I'm running commander, I end up spending a lot of time in a HAB whether it's bc of using a UAV or moving to call in support. In cases where there's great comms between Squads, I spend a lot of time in command chat coordinating efforts and staring at maps trying to see where we're being pushed from and trying to get accurate info from SLs.
I says this all because as of rn, you have to have a Squad of least 3 people total and most people who run commander end up running a full infantry Squad. In my experience, I feel like I'm not adequately there to help my Squad with rallies, timely directions, or helping assess an ongoing engagement in real time due to being back at a HAB calling in support or spotting with a UAV. For INS vs MIL, these issues aren't as prevalent for obvious reasons.
Maybe I'm just a shitty multitasker but I've been in command Squads where your SL just disappears while he's doing command things. My proposed solution to this is to have the Commander role a separate and individual role. This way your primary duty is to try and direct and assist your subordinate SLs and coordinate support assets without leaving your Squad a man short and lacking effective, real time leadership in addition to losing the ability to set rallies.
Let me know what you think or any other addendums to the role that could make it more effective or if I'm totally off base!!
