Q2 Community Forum - Updates & Discussion
Post Body

Howdy folks, r/jobudstories mod team here!

It’s been a pleasure helping to evolve this community over the past year, and wanted to take this time to provide some updates on what’s changed:

Updates:

Tags

Tags have been added to help users find more of what they like. They’re also searchable, so users can scour the archives for hidden gems. Tagging of old stories is ongoing, and should be more or less complete by EO Q2.

Moderation

Mods, on average have been 53% more active to help ensure the sub stays true to its purpose. This includes the removal of, on average 46% of posts clearly in direct violation of our rules. While we can’t get to every rouge post immediately (note that we also have lives, and do this for fun), we aim to scatter irrelevant posts to the wind within 2hrs of posting.

Rule Changes

Updated to reflect a shift away from stories based on fiction, incest, and generally low effort posts. These changes, like others have been implemented to ensure the core of the sub stays alive and well. Where some rules are harder to enforce (a la fiction vs. non-fiction), we tend to lean more lenient towards approval. Likewise, when it seems a user has put a lot of time and energy into a post in violation of a rule, we’ll typically ask them to change a detail or two rather than simply deleting the entire story.

Requests:

Sub Avatar

If anyone has graphic design experience, we could use a sub avatar to replace the standard ‘blue globe’. If you’re up to the challenge, DM me or the mod team and we’ll start gathering user feedback. If a few designers volunteer, perhaps we could even host a competition w/grand prize?

Feedback

What would you like to see more of on this sub? For example, what would make the sub more enjoyable, or encourage more users to post? Think the mods suck, or are too harsh/lenient? Let us know that too! Boy, this should be fun.

User Flair

Is there any interest in seeing user flair introduced (though not mandated) in the sub, perhaps based on some standard guidelines? The mod team has discussed it, but stands unsure of what would be appropriate for the sub.

Sub Wiki

There seems to be a lot of demand for answers to questions like “How do I convince my friend…” “Where can I find others looking to JO” and the like. We think a dedicated wiki for the sub would help users find what they’re looking for, but the lift is quite heavy for a 2-bud team. Do I hear any volunteers willing to help develop this resource? You’d have our full support in identifying models, building the structure, and what questions should be answered.

Closing Note:

This post is part of an effort to generate more engagement from the community, including feedback for the mod team on the sub’s direction. As much as moderation necessitates centralization, we’re ultimately just caretakers of your valued contributions. The success or failure of the sub, as well as redditors’ experience herein indeed rests on your shoulders - so keep your hot contributions coming, and let’s hear some feedback!

Humbly Submitted,

Your Mod Team
