Is looking for a job during the holiday season (Christmas) a good idea?

Long story short, I have to push my thesis defend to December 2021 so I'm thinking about getting a job at the beginning of 2022 (I'm on student visa so I can't full time before my thesis defend).
My plan is to start looking for a job around September/October and negotiate the start date to after New Year.
However, a lot of people said to me that company don't hire people near the end of the year so I wonder if that's the best plan/ possible to do so?
