My dad is probably going to be let go from his job this year. He’s been there for 20 years and is currently a senior VP but his company is going through a large reorg and has made claims that there will be cuts to his department.
Also I know senior VP sounds prestigious but his company is probably close to 50,000 people where there are hundreds of departments all with multiple VPs. He’d probably be equivalent to a Director level at a normal-sized company.
My dad is 55, and while he doesn’t quite have boomer energy his social skills could be a little better. I’ve never worked with him professionally but he does have a tendency to bulldoze people into things and is too dense to recognize polite refusals or take hints. He does also have some conservative views but I think he’s smart enough to keep that to himself at work.
I want to know if there are any resources or coaching videos to help make him more agreeable and likable? He’s a very competent guy in his field but I feel like he’ll have difficulty relating to Millennials and Gen Z like myself. His communication and technology skills could also be improved.
I’m worried about him getting back into the job market especially since it’s so saturated right now. Ageism certainly doesn’t help but if I interviewed my dad right now I probably wouldn’t hire him for the above reasons. I also work in a completely different industry but still.
