I am a 24-year-old woman who is deeply unsatisfied working in the restaurant industry. I'm currently a line cook and it is really not for me. I have never worked so hard in my life and it is deeply soul-sucking. I also don't love working with food, as I am just not passionate about it. I'm good at what I do, except when the fatigue sets in or the stress becomes too much to bear. I have faced a lot of criticism for feeling like I can't really take being a line cook. But realistically, I'm a sensitive person. I consider myself very "right brained." Detail oriented and analytical. I'm really good at things like formatting and data entry, but I have no formal experience. I have been looking into entry level desk jobs but I am realizing that I don't really fit the bill in terms of physical appearance. I have a handful of facial piercings (and wanting another), my ears are stretched to 1 1/4" (pretty big), and I have some visible tattoos. Is there any hope for someone like me? My only education is a high school diploma. My experience consists of four years of food service and four years of retail. I'd really like to land a job with benefits. I have never, ever had a vacation in my life. I can barely afford my health insurance. And I am just deeply unhappy working in a restaurant. I don't want to get stuck doing this for the rest of my life but I feel very stumped.
Also, if it helps, I live in Alaska.
tl;dr: I have tattoos and piercings and I'm sick of being a line cook. Seeking advice for types of jobs to look into that have benefits.
