Last Friday I was at an open interview for my dream job at a hospital. My interviews went super well and I have the required certifications. Despite being only 21, I have ~7 years of customer service experience which the supervisors emphasized. I also currently work at another hospital. They all said something to the degree of how they do not really care if one has clinical experience because the skills can be taught, whereas they cannot teach compassion and service skills.

I hadn’t heard anything from them that day and assumed it was normal. However, while I was out with some friends, I ran into one of the girls who was also there interviewing and we talked. She ended up getting a call from them that same day. Not sure how significant it is, but she already works in the hospital. It’s Tuesday and I’ve still heard nothing, so it is very likely safe to assume that I did not get this job.

I’m honestly so disheartened right now. My references are glowing and emphasize the traits they want, I have spent money on acquiring the required licensure, my interviews went very well, and I really want this job. I have applied for every opportunity and have sent in approximately 50 applications. New opportunities keep popping up for this hospital; there are currently 20 openings for the position that I want but that has happened before and I still did not get a single one of them. A few months ago, they did extend an invitation to interview with them, a couple of hours before the interview, while I was at work....of course I couldn’t make it and now every single time I apply for that particular position, I keep getting denied. Did I do something wrong by not being able to show up despite the very late invite?

I’m sorry if I sound like I’m whining. I just really have no idea what to do at this point.
