So, I'm at that time in my life where I am taking a step towards becoming a therapist, and I want to start by applying to become a peer support specialist. I currently am going to school for my BA in psychology, and I'm going to get my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I'm a bit nervous because I have no prior experience working in mental health, other than my own experiences in therapy and recovery. I'm incredibly passionate about helping people recover in any way I can, and my own experiences have given a lot of insight into how I can. I am not currently certified, but I am planning on getting my certification either withing the first 6 months I apply or possibly before then.
I'm looking for advice from people who are in the mental health field or ideally other peer support specialists for advice on how to best approach applying for this position and how to succeed.
