How long before leaving my current position should I start applying to jobs?

Post Body

I hope I phrased this question well, as I'm unsure specifically to ask it. For context, I am planning to move out of state around December 2018. I'd like to close out all my jobs and responsibilities at my current position and leave then. Is it too early (middle of May) to start applying? Is it normal for potential candidates to tell a new employer "yeah I want to work for you, but you gotta give me 5-6 months"? I ask because I've found the perfect position that I think I'm a great candidate for, but I'm afraid of burning that bridge at my current employer by leaving immediately. I'd put them in a very compromising position and I hate that. I really do love my job, but it's time for my SO and I to move so I have to find a new job.
