Hi everyone,
I'll try to keep this short and to the point: I am graduating from school in May and in the heat of the job hunt right now. This past summer I interned for a rather large company and loved my time there. For what it's worth, I got very good evaluations throughout the summer.
About three weeks ago, they posted a position in my department which I am probably qualified for, so I applied. I had been in contact with the team since the Summer, including getting lunch with them and a couple of check-ins, so I of course let the hiring manager (who was not my direct report, but I worked with often) know I applied. I haven't received any sort of acknowledgment from him, nor have I heard anything from the company, although the listing is still up. There's a solid chance they just haven't gotten moving on it, but it's hard to know.
To clarify, I saw the hiring manager and another person on the team a couple of days before the listing went up and they both (genuinely) encouraged me to apply and said I have a solid chance. I just find it a bit concerning that I haven't heard anything since I sent my application in. Not even a reply to my email saying I applied when the hiring manager has been very responsive to me in the past.
So, should I check in? I could also email my direct report, who has been on maternity leave, and ask her if she knows anything. Or do I just continue to wait and let the process play itself out since they clearly know I'm interested? I lean towards the latter, but so many people have told me to check in that I want to hear what you all have to say.
Thank you!
