How to deal with job title that does not reflect above market pay?
Post Body

I am a marketing manager with 5 years of marketing experience and 13 years of overall experience. I was a product manager and investment banker so for the most part have great technical skills that have treated me well while doing marketing. I switched into marketing five years ago after doing an MBA at a top 10 school.

I have received multiple promotions in the last few years and my salary is close to that of a director or even VP at some firms. However my title is simply "manager" even though I manage about 30 people (5 internal the rest external agencies).

I recently went on a few interviews and fear that my title will get me low-balled. Just received one offer and it is 30% less from my current salary.

Should I change my title in my resume to reflect my current pay to something like "Head of acquisition" or "Senior Manager". Will this help me get more appropriate job offers?

(note: a change of title is unlikely at my current firm and many of us find ourselves in similar position)
