I'm just starting the 3rd year of my startup business. Been doing okay, but it's become very clear that I am crap at marketing and need someone with education and experience in that area. I can't afford to hire anyone yet, but am thinking if I can get my sales up, I can hire in the second half of the year. So there's no job opening yet, but I want to know everybody's opinions whether this is a good idea or just a dick move:
So my business is online retail. My biggest need is for someone to take good product photos and videos that I can use on social media for marketing purposes. Ideally they would also take care of social media postings on a regular basis for me.
I'm still working full time in a corporate "day job". Not very happy with it, so I've been doing my own job hunting, and along the way I've seen the crap job postings that are out there for "entry level" professionals. In my very strong opinion, if you demand 2 - 3 years of experience, that is NOT entry level! So I'm not going to do that if I post this job. I'm thinking that I would ask for 6 months of experience and a marketing degree. I'm not sure if it would be a paid internship or a part time position, but what I do know is that I won't be able to afford to pay much more than minimum wage at first, until my sales come up to where I can pay more. My goal is not to exploit the person I hire, just to get some help that I can afford.
So the question is: if the job qualifications were only a degree and at least 6 months of experience for minimum wage, would that be a nice way to start your career? Or would it be BS and I shouldn't insult anybody by trying that?
