Should I report my last employer to the Labor Department?
Post Body

I was fired from my job over a month ago. Although it was never cited as a reason, I and others, believe it was because I was constantly questioning dodgy practices. Supposedly I was fired for being late numerous times, never more than 10 minutes mind you, yet others who are hours late consistently are still employed there.

This family run restaurant does not pay their new hires during training. Supposedly the free small meal you get at the end of your training day is compensation. Not only that but they hold 2 all store meetings a year. You are not allowed to clock in. If you do, they change your time. If you don't show up, you're threatened with automatic termination.

There are other things, but these are the major points where I think they are explicitly breaking the law. Other people have told me not to waste my time, but I feel if I don't that they'll continue to do this since no one else ever said anything about it. I'm not in it to get backpay. I want to prevent this from happening to everyone else who works there.

Am I wasting my time, or should I pursue this and hopefully see them pay for mistreating their employees?
