This is my first time asking for advice on here, so bear with me. I am also posting this on mobil so I may miss a few grammar and spelling things.
I am currently working part time as a librarian (I got my MLS back in 2017) and I have been in this position for almost 5 years. I have applied to full time librarian positions both at my current library when they open up and at other libraries in the area (I live in the DFW area of Texas). I am feeling disheartend and a bit lost because I am constantly rejected from full time positions even with the experience I have, I'm not sure if I am just bad at interviews or if my boss just wants to keep me in a part time position because he knows it will be extremely difficult to fill.
As such I have been looking for work else where and with the constant rejections from eveyone in my current field I have been heavily considering a career change, if for no other reason than I need more money (because lets face it things are only ever going to get more expensive). I just don't know what to change to. I didn't specialize with my degree so law, music, and medical libraries aren't an option, and most academic libraries want you to teach or have several years of research experience (which I don't have and I am definnetly not a good fit for teaching either at the grade school level or college level unless ita how to use a data base). Most of my actual work experience is in customer service except for the last 5 years or so which is public library focused (which I suppose you could argue is heavily customer service focused). I have looked into careers that are applicable to people with an MLS, but most of them require experience doing that specific thing (such as archivist). I have also looked into getting different computer certifications to maybe transition into the tech field, but those aren't exactly cheap to get and the tech field is overly saturated now as well. I really would like to avoid going back to school since I would need to take more loans out and I am already 80grand in the hole, not to mention the time needed to do it.
I have considered looking into different cities, states, and even other countries, but those all come with a lot of difficulties. Moving is really only an option if the job pays enough for me to cover the bills of both me and my partner until they find work in the area we move to (unlikely) and thats assuming I even get a job offer (havent had much luck with even getting interviews in other cities and states). We have diacussed this and they are very much up for moving (mostly because they hate living in Texas).
Tldr: librarian looking to make a career change but doesn't know what to change to and would like to avoid going further into debt to make that change happen.
