I’m 26 and I’ve never had a job. Looking for advice.
Post Body

This is embarrassing to admit. But I’ve never worked a day in my life at 26 years old. And I have no idea how to get my foot in the door.

I don’t know who would accept me at this point. I have an Associate’s Degree in liberal arts, and that’s about it. I never got my Bachelor’s Degree. I never knew what I wanted to study, so I kept changing majors until I burnt out and became depressed.

I wish I could say that I’ve done something useful during this time, but that’s not true. I’ve been living with my parents and either playing video games or laying in bed staring at the ceiling.

I’ve been in therapy for almost a year now. That’s been helping. I’m trying to become a healthy individual: waking up early, getting exercise, eating right, getting out of the house, developing real and wholesome hobbies. I’m beginning to lose weight too, so that’s good.

Right now I really just need some kind of work I can commit to for at least a year. Even if it’s just stocking shelves or part time retail work. I need to prove to myself that I can actually commit to something.

I’m thinking of going back to school to finish my Bachelor’s Degree. I want to study something actually useful, like finance or accounting. And I’d like to learn a language or two. Ideally Spanish and maybe French or Portuguese. However, I’m also open to the trades, like being an electrician or mechanic of sorts. Or even truck driving. I could definitely do that. And I suppose I wouldn’t mind doing something military related at this point.

Not exactly interested in education or nursing. I would love to help people, but maybe not in that way. I just want to feel like I’m a productive member of society instead of being a leech, which is what I’ve been for the past several years. I could help people in volunteering: I would love to do that.

That was a lot. Looking for direction or advice please. Thank you.
