Iāve been on both sides of the hiring process and agree both sides suck. Both the employer and potential employees could stand to improve. But one of my biggest gripes is with employers promising to contact you either way but instead just ghosting.
This is a simple thing to avoid. You can just give the usual āwe will be deciding within the next three business days. If you donāt hear from us by then we have moved on.ā Easy and direct. Donāt promise to contact the potential employee either way and just drop them. In this age with hiring sites you can easily send a mass message to all applicants not selected stating they didnāt get chosen.
Even more so annoying is when you do promise to contact either way and then ignore the applicants when they reach out asking for an update. Again with technology itās so easy. Shoot an email, a message through hiring site or even just a freakin text back stating no they didnāt get the job. What are you really accomplishing by ignoring them? How much effort does it really take? So little.
Companies who do the whole long ass process and just drop people like bad habits are annoying. They will have an applicant apply, do a video/phone screening, attend 2-3 or more in person interviews and still just ghost. Least you could do is let them know they didnāt make the cut. Hell send them a gas card for the gas wasted driving to you.
