Post Body

Hi team, this is more of a rant. I am currently a Vice President of Business Technology for an investment bank in nyc. I am few months ago a recruiter approached me for an incredible opportunity. It’s for a Director of IT role for a growing finance firm. It’s an increase in pay, 2 day in-office, and the office is literally 5 minutes away from me. It’s absolutely perfect. I waited about 3 weeks for the first interview. After that I was told to wait for the second interview. After waiting for another 2 weeks, the recruiter called me to tell me that they have put a hold on the role as they aren’t sure who they need for this role. They still need to identify the position. So they have instead hired a consultant for 4 months to help identify how to fill the role.

My recruiter told me this isn’t ideal but they believe I’m still a strong candidate and believes if I’m still in the market they will call me back.

For now I’m in no rush to look for a new role and only got interested in this one because it seemed like the perfect next step in my career.

Has anyone ever encountered this type of wait? Is this normal for a small start-up type firm? Any suggestions on what to do?
