I work in the software as a service industry, on the technical support side. I spent the last 7 years with the same company and was laid off about a year ago. I have had the hardest time finding another job in the saas realm and I am struggling to figure out why.
I was a technical account manager and have not been able to even get an interview for the same position, so I started applying for entry level positions and have had a good number of interviews but have yet to make it past the 2nd round of interviews until recently. I’m currently speaking with a company and have made it through three different rounds of interviews. I have a 4th interview coming up in the next few days and this time I will be meeting with the CTO of the company and I’m really stressing myself out over this.
The position I am applying for is essentially a tier 2 support position and I am just a bit surprised that the CTO of the company will be the one conducting this interview. I don’t have a college degree and my qualifications are basically just my experience with my previous company. I have familiarity with SQL although I have no kind of SQL certifications, I have small experience with reading through server logs but I really don’t know much about properly reading those logs. With my previous company I would look through logs and try to find errors that matched the time stamps of when the actions took place and I would typically send those up to my engineering team for them to review further. I am worried I may not be technically equipped to have a full in depth interview with the CTO of this company and I am worried there may be some technical questions brought up that go over my head.
I started with my last company at a tier 1 support position and after a few years I found myself in a technical account manager role, I just became really familiar with the software and I think my people skills is mostly what got to me to that position. I really need this job but I am starting to panic over the fact that the CTO is conducting this interview. I am not sure how to prepare myself for this and am desperate for some sound advice.
