I went on a job applying bender for a month or so and applied to about 200 places in and outside my current city. I have a job, but overtime has been slow to come back (work is slow, but usually the lull does not last this long). I applied to 200 jobs, got maybe 4 or 5 call backs, some interest online (but the pay was not enough), flew out to this one city, and nada. I did get a callback this week and the pay is good and will go into an actual interview with this company. I am crossing my fingers.
The larger thing I found is that with being in growth mode for my career and realizing my industry is spread out, I may need to move again even further into the future. This made me consider whether settling down in one area makes sense, or whether I should just be prepared to move in the future. I was planning on hunkering down and getting a second job, but a 40% increase is too hard to pass up. I may not get the job, but my future seems destined for the one city, as my current city dried up.
How do you plan for the future, if at all? How did the current paradigm change things?
