To start this off, everyone and their mother knows Job Corps is not a great program. It's more of a last resort program. I personally have had a change of heart due to my experience. I've done a lot of thinking since graduation in July of 2022. From the fact that at my home center, I had a staff member tell me to suck it up during a mental breakdown while in quarantine after a traumatic event, down to the fact that I had to go to the center director at my center for Advanced Training and threaten to resign over the fact that I had been sexually harassed by a room mate and dorm staff were refusing to move me away from her simply because I am a trans masc individual and they took her word with it being an accident over the person who was having PTSD break downs/anxiety attacks for a few days and couldn't even function in class after what had happened until I started to feel safe again.
My advice to prospecting students: only sign up to this program if you're willing to struggle with your mental health, willing to sign away all sense of freedom you have, and using this program as a last resort. you can't complain about the program without punishment. You'll be lucky if you do have a good experience and staff who care. I was one of the people who went to not one but two job corp centers with such caring staff to the point that a few of them let me and my friends call them mom or dad. - sadly those staff don't work there anymore, or if they're still there, they might leave soon.
keep your head down, do your shit, then bounce. be nice, make friends, but DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT fall in love/develop feelings for/be romantic with ANYONE. oh, and don't be a snitch. look the other way if someone is doing something bad. [ unless it's Sexual Harrassment/Sexual Assault/ some sort of -phobia/ism, then report that shit. ]
