Memrise N1 Vocab Course
Post Body

I'm posting this here since Memrise makes it a little hard for people to find courses. Especially through the apps. I never found an N1 oriented course on there with enough words or in the style I wanted to study, so I put one together quickly for myself, using Jisho's labels. Anyway, since July is cancelled perhaps it could be useful for others aiming for December or (more realistically) next July.

Randomised N1 Vocab

【README】

  • I made this course for myself but am offering it to the public since I cannot find a similar one.
  • Each of the two levels consists of the 2690 N1 words labelled as such in the dictionary (Jisho.org).
  • The first level consists of linking the Japanese word to the English meaning(s). The second level involves learning the Kanji for the words you learned in the first.

    【Notes】

  • 1) I removed any that are N1 but are labelled lower levels (which are such because they have multiple meanings and you learn the extra meanings as you progress to higher levels of N1).

  • 2) I did not cleanse the data so some words contain the 'answers' (the Kanji or Kana of the meaning). Try not to look and be honest, choose the wrong answer if you know you didn't get to the answer of your own volition.

  • 3) I took out tapping tests etc so it should be multiple choice. For ease of use... and I personally do not need practice with typing etc., at this point.

  • 4) They have been randomised - taken from a sorted state to what you see here - so that you don't go through all of the 'a' words first, etc., and similar ones all at once... That isn't so fun.

    【Progression】

I suggest also staggering your progression through the levels over a few days. For example, start level 2 (reading the Kanji) about 3-4 days after you started level 1. It might mess with your spaced rep. reminders if you do it at the same time, but at the same time, you don't want to do the entire of level 1 before starting level 2. No new Kanji for ages will not be fun.

    【Suggested daily volume】

I suggest no more than 20 new ones a day, if that. That happens to be around the amount you would need, to get all of them done before the next test in December (not all in your LTM, however). It might be better to aim for next July if you are wanting to tackle them all here.
