Service light on. No code comes up

Hey what’s up everyone I have a 2014 Jetta 2.5. Service light has come on and I’ve noticed the car acceleration has been a tad weird/ gas mileage has been atrocious lately and my MPG numbers just change every second. I used the car code scanner from autozone nothing comes up. Does this mean I’m obligated to go to Volkswagen to figure out what’s wrong?
