I really loved Arcane, and seeing our boy get that much space in it was super good, but I was kinda frustrated by how unlikeable he appeared, especially in act 2 and 3.
Look at this poll : https://i.imgur.com/aolp0lu.png or just read any social media.
I think the writers wanted to show that Jayce is flawed but they insisted on that so much that he almost became a joke :
- He gets played literally every time he talks to another character in the show which leads him to change opinions every 10 minute
- Everything he tries to do fails spectacularly
- Constantly made to laugh at (the season is literally bookended by people saying they scammed him in a deal)
- The only badass moment he gets to have when he uses the Mercury Hammer (awesome scene btw) comes out of nowhere (no real focus on him managing to build it which is supposed to be kind of a huge moment) and is undercut after 1 minute by him MURDERING A CHILD
And yeah it's good to show that he's a flawed individual but I feel it may have been a bit too much. It's not even like they made it a charismatic asshole tony stark guy like he's in the lore. I still love him in the series because I can see past those flaws, but I'm pretty sure that's because I'm a Jayce player on HOPIUM, and that's why other people don't really like him compared to the likes of Viktor.
Well, thanks for listening to my TED talk and hopefully he gets an arc that'll make him look better in season 2.
