Just curious
Maybe it makes more sense to ask was it genetics or environment (nature vs. nurture) that caused the issues? "Bad habits" make it sound like it was a choice, which it wasn't. I had bad allergies and a deviated septum so as a baby/toddler/kid trying to breathe, I mouth breathed, causing my jaw to grow longer, arch more narrow, etc. Today, myofunctional therapy has helped me change some of these "habits," but I needed a septoplasty to be able to breathe out of my nose, and I'll need DJS and a tongue tie release to properly correct the skeletal issues.
But this is all a product of how I was breathing/using face muscles adaptively as a kid. No one in my family has the same jaw/facial structure issues I have.
