I did it!
Post Body

I am officially 22 hours out from double jaw surgery w/ genioplasty. Face mostly numb, main pain is in my neck and throat. Surprisingly I could speak pretty well after, but I think the sore throat (from my anesthesia tube I believe) has left me barely intelligible. Lots more text to speech since I woke up this morning.

Kept being woken up at night because whenever I fell asleep, my heart rate would jump to 125-130 and alarms would go off. Fine when I’m awake though. So far this has been a mystery to docs and nurses alike. I’m hypothesizing that it’s a combo of the steroids I already have PTSD so some things are weirdly putting me in fight or flight mode.

My greatest joy so far has been the sucky straw thing (like what is at a dentist’s office) to help drain my goop. I’m trying to see if I can get one for home because idk what I will do without it, lol

I’m a vomiter when I’m even temporarily feeling a little ick, and the team has been maxing out the anti nausea meds they can give me and I’ve been shockingly OK.

My partner has told me (with love) that I look like I got extreme lip filler in just my lower lip. 😂

Not sure if this is just because I already have asthma, but I am getting a lot of shortness of breath while just walking to the bathroom, which makes me nervous because I have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to my apartment. (Though once I am inside, I don’t have to leave basically at all! I already get my groceries delivered, pantry stocked with soup, fridge full of juices and protein shakes, AND I work from home. 😂)

Also, because I had scrolled this sub prior to surgery for both of these and got mixed answers: no catheter for me, and was fine to keep in plastic piercing retainers in my ears and nips, but not my septum. My surgeon had told me that was ultimately going to be up to the anesthesiologist day of so I had put them in and assumed they may have had to come out anyway.

First pic is about 2 hours post-surgery and second one is about 14 hours out.

This is probably a little rambly and disorganized but can you really blame me? 😂😂😂

Feel free to drop any questions. This sub’s personal experience has already made WORLD of difference for me and I am happy to now be able to give back.
