Trouble opening mouth wide

I am about 8 weeks post op from DJS. I got my splint out two weeks ago and now I have a few screws remaining in the front with rubber bands at night (coming out soon). I am still mostly on liquids and very very soft foods. I have noticed though that I can’t open my mouth very wide at all (barely two fingers width). Is this normal? I am a little freaked out that my jaw will be like this permanently but wondering if it just takes a little time for it to be able to open?
