Long trails passable in May?

Hi all!
I will be visiting in May and was originally hoping to run the skyline trail. The parks canada info guide says it only becomes passable in July? Is that generally true or could i pass through with ice cleats??
Are there any other 30 to 50km trails you would recommend? My searches are showing trails around 15km!
