Repost from /r/japanlife but figured I would try my luck
So that title is a bit vague and dramatic, but it's more a long the lines of a possible move out into Japan. I'm in relationship with a Japanese person, we've been together for a while. We recently went back on a trip to Japan to see her grandparents, which was overall refreshing. The but is that when we came back, she started talking about a desire to go back because her grandparents are elderly and she would like to be around them in their old age.
I kinda thought the idea was just something she brought up because she was feeling emotional having to leave them once more, but its been a year and she has been more and more diligent regarding moving back. Which honestly scares me.
She has a college degree, and marketable skills. I on the other hand have mostly skills involving Hotel work and Mexican Cuisine (I'm originally from Mexico) with no college degree. This puts a damper in plans to get hitched and such because my future would be put in a strange position but I can see why she would like to move back to Japan.
Her grandparents live right outside of Hiroshima City and have a Rice paddy (is that the proper term?) and they are getting too old to take care of it. The oldest male in the family left to Osaka to be in a punk band. She wants to help however she can but possibly find a more professional job out there.
Now any advice? should I talk about it and possible commit to a long distance thing? should I make a hard choice to leave my relationship behind so she can do what she wants? Should I actually move? is it possible for a schlub like me to succeed in Japan? Is Hiroshima nice to live in?
What do? (Im already practicing some Japanese just in case)
