There is a very quiet little subreddit called /r/JapanTravel. I'd love to see it get bigger.
We all know that this place is a common destination for people who are coming to Japan. They want to ask about JR passes and what's off the beaten path and so forth. But a lot of people here would prefer not to have travel questions posted here, so they downvote and/or complain at the asker. This results in both sides being grumpy: the residents get annoyed that people are constantly asking questions, and the visitors are confused about why everybody is so mean in /r/japan.
If we could get people posting in /r/JapanTravel it might help reduce the frustration all around. People who are happy to help travelers can continue to do so, and travelers can get answers without bothering people who don't want to talk with them.
Of course there will still be travel posts here, just as there are still pictures despite /r/JapanPics, translation requests despite /r/Translator, etc. But maybe we can achieve a bit better balance if we start using /r/JapanTravel, and everybody can be a little happier.
I've posted a couple of links over there and modmailed to ask that a link be added to /r/japan. If you are one of those who enjoys helping travelers, please consider submitting links there and helping redirect travelers over there. Thanks!
