sorry, I know this gets asked all the time, but I’d love to hear some opinions from those who wouldn’t mind giving theirs! so far I’ve read, in this order:
- pride and prejudice
- sense and sensibility
- emma
I just put emma down a few hours ago, lol. so far it’s my favorite. I felt like I connected a lot with the sense of humor and the characters (just a side note, I especially found mr. woodhouse compelling. I loved every paragraph he was in). I also thought it was interesting to get a view into the world of a woman who really held some societal power and a kind of independence— through jane austen’s eyes. pretty different from the situations of the other women in the books i’ve read!
p&p was my second favorite. really enjoyed the romance, the back and forth between Darcy and Elizabeth, and I again found the book really funny. the kitty drama was pretty compelling, too.
I expected to connect more with s&s than I did. I still loved it, but not as much as the other two.
I’d like to save persuasion for last, so I’m choosing between:
- northanger abbey
- mansfield park
- lady susan
I’ve really enjoyed reading the discussions in here on the books I’ve already read, and would appreciate any thoughts on where I should go next! thanks everyone :)
