Hey everyone,
I played Jak 2 when I was about 12 years old and just started gaming on the PS2. Recently I bought A PS5 and saw that all three main series entries were available and decided to give them a go. Natuarally this time around I started with Jak 1 for the first time and absolutely loved it (except the Zoomer Missions) and even got my platinum on it. Imagine my excitement for the nostalgia trip that I thought was going to be Jak 2. Whilst it is enjoyable so many questionable game design choices ruin the experience almost completely for me.
Mainly these are:
Checkpoints: What the hell is wrong with these checkpoints? Having to redo 2 minutes of gameplay after dying to some stupid jump is BS. But also losing Ammo/ Eco is even more ridiculous. Who thought it woule be enjoyable to punch your way through the slums after your 13th attempt and completely running out of bullets.
Vehicles: I really liked the driving as a kid and still find it enjoyable now too, however most of the vehicles are just too boring. There is no great visual design, the speed isn't great and especially the bikes break super quickly. It made me dread the many races that are in the game.
Bosses: The few bosses that are in the games are all bullet sponges. Krew and the Metalhead Leader (especially the Leader) are so unbelievably tough when It comes to HP I almost lost my mind. Especially since Krew's minions have in comparison a lot of health too.
Missions: You cannot sincerely tell me that all of the Missions have been playtested. The amount of replaying that has to be done when you die at certain points in Missions is so ridiculous that it made me pause the game more than once. This gets especially tedious with the Titan Suit, or the "running away from danger x/y/z" sections of the game.
There are more things that bother me than all of these points (e.g. why is there no clear menu like in Jak 1 where I can see the collectibles for each area) that when summarized leave a real sour taste in my mouth.
I am curious to see if Jak 3 is the same or better than Jak 2 (and 1).
