Crumb is a documentary about cartoonist Robert Crumb, his work, and his family. I didn’t know anything about the movie or the person going into it, and it was very captivating. I keep thinking about it, and I will have to watch it again soon to really get a handle on how I feel about it. It seems like both R. Crumb and the film are well known, but as someone unfamiliar with both it was a striking experience.
I found it especially interesting how the brothers, Charles, and Maxon, were severely mentally ill and suicidal/criminally insane. Robert seemed to have similar views on the world and complex internal strife, but he channeled these feelings into his work, as an outlet.
I would love to hear more thoughts if anyone else has seen the movie.
