I converted SWN Factions for my D&D game!
Post Body

Here is the Dropbox link to my spreadsheet! I hope you all enjoy using it!

Just some notes:

  • Since the core "map" concepts in SWN revolve around hexes and planetary systems, there had to be a significant overhaul in the structure of the universe. I use "Regions" to replace "Worlds/Planets" and I use "Countries/Nations" to replace "Hexes." (If I missed replacing something, please let me know!) I sometimes use the term country loosely to describe a large area that is usually all ruled by a government. But that can easily change during the course of faction turns.
  • FacCreds change to FacGold. Like SWN, it does not necessarily represent raw gold pieces, but rather infrastructure and materials and personnel.
  • Since movement in SWN assumes going through space, and there's little to none of that in D&D (unless you're playing Spelljammers), I've just given the ability for ground units to move within one region of their current positions as a movement action. Traveling by sea still requires a drop or transportation asset.
  • In my campaign, the time setting is post-Renaissance, so cannons and firearms are prevalent. Reference to such can be replaced by words like "catapults" or other time-appropriate siege weaponry.
  • Tech levels are hard to make work for the fiction of D&D. I've left them in and tried to rewrite the rules accordingly, but I don't particularly plan on using them in my campaign.

Future Plans:

  • I need to write a mechanic to keep Ship assets like Strike Fleets or Armadas relevant, but I've been drawing a blank. As they are with the change in ground movement, they seem only to serve as removal for a Blockade Fleet. If you have any ideas, please feel free to share!
  • Some of the SWN Faction tags don't currently work well with D&D. Most do, but a few (mostly ones pertaining to TL) need a revamp.
  • I'm thinking of adding a new Faction goal; something along the lines of "Remove the Enemy: Remove an existing Base of Influence within your territory. The Difficulty is the amount of HP it has divided by X." Not sure about the divisor; this should be a more difficult one even for low-HP Bases, as it represents having to get past whatever other assets the rival faction may have.

Please feel free to leave feedback and advice on edits or changes I can make! Hopefully you'll be able to use this in your own D&D or high fantasy game. And a major thanks to Adam for giving me the idea to do this!
