Canadian traveling to Ireland on a working holiday. Looking for tips on where to live, work and play, as well as a general idea on cost of living.

Post Body

Hello /r/Ireland,

Everything in my life is lining up and it looks like I'll be going to Ireland in about 10 weeks. Work Visas last for up to 2 years, so I plan on actually living there for a while (not just a 2 week tour like so many others do). I've done working holidays before (New Zealand) and know that it's not always an easy go, but I figured I'd turn to Reddit for a few answers on the basics. I'm sure there will be many people that say "Don't come to Ireland, go to XXXXXXX" But my mind is mostly made up. I know there are issues with the economy right now and that getting a job isn't easy anywhere you go. I've been a bartender for 7 years and ran a bartending school in Canada for 3 years, so I'm pretty good with that, I'll also continue doing some work remotely so I should be able to have a bit of an income going regardless.

(I've chosen not to post this in /r/irishtourism because my move will be long term, not just a 2 week jaunt. If a Mod feels that it should be changed, message me and I will most it in the appropriate subreddit)

My questions are:

Where Should I live?

I'm leaning towards Dublin and then doing traveling from there, but I'm open to suggestions on the city. Also, as far as the city goes - where in a city is good to live, or good to avoid? What would be the average, fair price to expect for living accommodations in various areas? (for example, what are you paying and what's your set up? 400/month in a shared apartment? 600/month alone?)

What does a typical night out cost?

Movie tickets?

Pint of beer?

Average meal?

Big Mac Combo?

Cup of Coffee?

What are transportation options?

Is Ireland (or specific cities) bike friendly?

What is the cost on renting a car?

Cost of Gas/diesel?

In city buses? Trains? Monthly cost?

Easiest way to travel across the country? cost?

Easiest way to travel to England? Scotland? Cost?

Misc

What is the cost of the average gym membership?

What are some must do/see things in Ireland that the tourists never get?

What do you hate about Tourists? also, is there negativity towards americans that might be shown to me unless I identify myself as canadian? (I hate wearing the maple leaf, its a cheap, touristy trick.)

Is there a dodgeball league I can join? If not, who's in?

Anything I missed that you feel is worth mentioning?

Thanks to those that have chosen to help. I appreciate it.
