We the mods of /r/Iran are against censorship of any kind.

2015 has been arguably a turning point in politics, political fundamentals-- and especially the world view on Iran.

As Iranians we're constantly censored inside of Iran and prosecuted for having different thoughts and beliefs. So as mods our goal is to work hard towards creating an environment where users can practice their freedom of speech and express themselves freely.

With that in mind please follow the three simple guidelines of the sub and create meaningful content. If you disagree with a statement, please use the voting system as well as civil discussions to express yourself.

We would like to specifically point out that being critical of Iran, Islam, or cultural practices does not fall under racism. Just because Islam is a majority religion in Iran, it doesn't mean the mod team should defend it to the hilt. Being critical adds value. Looking and questioning cultural practices adds value. We believe that even though some users may at first inadvertently insult people's religions or cultures, they can be educated.

Furthermore, we believe that the reddit voting system is sacred.

Therefore, it reflects your views and what you want to see. We feel that removing posts, especially when they add value and have valid discussion points-- is destructive behaviour. If someone is being explicit with insults towards a single user, you just report them, we will investigate. But if someone keeps posting insulting posts toward the community, we won't remove/ban them. We will let the voting system handle it. If it gets really bad, we will humour them with a ban.

We welcome all discussions. We will let the voting system decide the popularity of discussions and only take action when we believe that brigades are being used.

We stress this last paragraph, more than anything. Voting brigades will not be tolerated.
