And I totally understand why.. I will look for a story on another site before linking to one of theirs. I find their sites horrible to use and full of ads, the journalistic standards are poor as their journalists are stretched on a low operating budget.
But, they're a local company. They're not run by a Russian oligarch, or right wing media moguls, but by two local families, and their employees (at least last time I checked)
I often find local stories that are only published in their papers and struggle to find any other sources of similar stories.
So my question is, what's the alternative? Social media is filled with trollbot posts funded by people with political agendas. We could boycott Archant into non existance and then be presented with a worse choice of news sources.
I'd like to see some form of community journalism that is self regulating, and resistant to bias. This is what I thought this subreddit could provide, and although it's not perfect, I hope we can come together and fill that gap. Here are my alternative news sources, can you suggest any more?
Youtube search
Twitter search (by location)
Google news search (often turns up interesting trade journal posts that are local)
Ipswich Borough council news
Suffolk constabulary news
I'd like to put some of these, and any good suggestions in the sidebar so that you can find interesting news yourself and post it here.
