iOS 5 Wifi Sync Question

Is is possible to sync to a computer that is connected by ethernet to the wifi-providing router?

My music lives on my desktop, which is hardwired into my router. My iPhone gets plugged into the outlet by my bed to charge every night. Thus far, I haven't been able to get them to play nice. Wifi sync is enabled on the PC and on the phone, and the phone is definitely on the wifi network provided by my router.

Additionally, sometimes iTunes starts when I plug my phone in, but it still says it cannot complete a sync over wifi, let alone initiate it automatically.

Help!?
