Phone lost, what's most likely scenario?

I am 99.9% sure my phone fell out of my pocket while on a 10-minute motorcycle ride between house and gym. I was talking on it while sitting on my bike before taking off, then I got to the gym and it was gone.

Immediately retraced steps twice, nothing. Went to find my iphone from computer within 15 min, it hasn't updated in over an hour, and it's stuck on "Pending..." when I mark as lost.

Thinking either someone found it and reset it immediately, or it smashed/died on impact. Other ideas?

Check under the couch cushions, it's where all technology seems to magically disappear to!
