This is so absurd. Back in 2020 when I switched from my S10 to iPhone 12 Pro, I was amazed at the build quality of the iPhone. iOS seemed like something that was impossible to break. It never lagged on me. Never saw a frame drop and no apps that I used ever crashed or misbehaved. Everything worked like it's supposed to and it really hooked me on the iPhone.
4 years later and with the release of iOS 18 and the iPhone 16, all of that went straight down the gutter. As soon as I upgraded to iOS 18 Public Beta, my camera stopped being recognized as an original part and stopped working properly. I figured it's a beta and it's not going to be the most reliable thing (albeit even a beta update that completely bricks the cameras should never have made it to the cloud). So, I waited for iOS 18's official update and moved over to the public version or iOS 18. What do I find out? Now my rear cameras don't work AT ALL in the stock camera app. Snapchat and Instagram are able to access the cameras, for crying out loud. Get your sh*t together, Apple!
I went on this subreddit to find out I wasn't alone in this camera issue. Far from it. All kinds of iPhones have this problem now. Even the brand new iPhone 16 Pro's!! (I'm sorry for you guys, btw).
Wtf is this Apple? You were good at two things: reliability and cameras, and you dropped the ball soooo hard on both this year.
Every year, the new iPhone seems more and more uninspired and iterative. This year, Apple just sunk the ship by making them straight up unsusable.
Apple, if you're gonna spend years marketing about how great your cameras are, you should probably make sure that the cameras are actually f***ing functioning!
I might as well switch back to a Samsung Flip or the Pixel 9.
Edit: Some of y'all in the comments are actually brainless. I loterally waited for the regular 18 to see if the problems persisted and they did. And even if the bug carried over somehow in my case, I'm obviously not alone and so many other people have the exact same issue in the regular 18. Either y'all are trolling me rn, or y'all are literally illiterates.
