Any cheaper alternatives to the Apple Camera Adapter for connecting USB interface?

I'm wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on any cheaper alternative than dropping £20 on an official Apple camera adapter to hook up my USB interface to my iPad. I've tried it with a crappy knockoff converter so I know power isn't an issue, but I'd like something that is stable but more affordable for a poor student boy.
