Are there a lot fewer new games than there used to be?

Post Body

I've been playing IOS games for ... gosh, maybe a decade now. I used to browse through the app store and Touch Arcade forums to find new games. In more recent years I'll occasionally do a google search for "games like X" or "best IOS games in 2020" or whatever. In the past few months I've just been seeing the same games over and over, and very rarely anything new. For example, do a Google search for "best new games in 2021" and you'll get a list of games that were published within the last ten years. WTH?

Similar for the App store, which I know everybody agrees is just a hot mess anyway. I used to be able to find fun new games in there occasionally, but they rarely show new games anymore. I see "coming soon" games listed for preorders, but it seems that when they're actually released, I never see them.

It's also possible that my taste in games has diverged from the popular market, though. I'm not into action or combat games as much as I used to be. Love games like Radiation Island, the Rusty Lake games, and point and click adventures and hidden objects. I can't stand all the games that have added merge mechanics and pixel art. (Pixel art is not bad, just it's been done to death.)
