Anyone else kinda disappointed with their iPhone 15 Pro Max so far (Genshin)?

Post Body

So this is mainly for playing Genshin Impact on iPhone 15 Pro Max. I only have 2 games installed that I play right now—Genshin and Star Rail.

Star Rail has been fine, graphically speaking (I am only in the beginning part of the game, however), but Genshin is giving me some trouble. It’s the thermal throttling, really. It’s just disappointing to me though because I feel like a lot of us bought this very premium and expensive device, mainly being sold on that A17 pro chip for gaming, but we’re actually not getting the performance we were promised.

I am relatively far along in Genshin and have been to/unlocked the most graphically demanding regions, but I’ve been doing some quests in The Chasm this past week and it just hasn’t been a great gaming experience so far. I’ll attach a pic of my current settings, but I’ve basically got everything set to medium settings with 60 fps on, as well as MetalFX turned on at the bottom. This results in a “smooth” graphical load, but Jesus Christ, my phone really gets hot after a few minutes in The Chasm (throttling and frame rate drops ensues).

I have tried putting my phone on Low Power Mode to see if that would do anything, but that really just makes my game kinda stutter-y and clunky. It does help with the heat problem when you do this, however (at least for me).

One thing I did find pretty helpful was actually turning the MetalFX off and just running the game at all the medium settings with 60 fps enabled still. MetalFX is a great feature I think because it really makes your game look good, even on medium settings, but it did help my performance here, even if my game world looked a bit more blurry and less sharp.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Do you share kind of the same sentiments with me, or are you having no problems at all running Genshin on your 15 PM? I’d love to know everyone’s personal experiences with the game in the comments, as I really haven’t found a good thread for this so far. Any tips would also be awesome! I do have iOS 17.0.3 btw. I will attach screenshots of my current graphics settings as well! Thx
