I really love playing board games, but I really hate having to set them up—and even worse is having to clean them up.
Playing a board game on my iPad can be fun, but I lose the "group" aspect of playing a physical board game. And I hate pass-and-play with a passion; 50% of the time you're twiddling your thumbs!
We're working on a board game that uses the iPad as a board, but uses smartphones as the controller. No download is required for the controller, and your friends don't have to use iPhones—Android phones will work, as will any with a recent browser. So you'd bring your iPad to game night, and people with smart phones (or other tablets or laptops, for that matter) could sit down, enter a short URL, and be in the game.
Everyone can take turns simultaneously. In cooperative games with traitors, the traitors could text each other privately to plan. If the game night ended early, you could save it and restore next time.
We just put up the game announcement on our web site, if you're curious to see what game we're working on now, but my question for iosboardgames is: Are you in? Do you like the idea of a game design not limited by what you can do with paper? What kinds of games would you like to see done this way? We're not going to stop when the first game is done, after all.
