Staying in Inverness in mid-September - closer coastal hiking rec's
Post Body

I *really* love the idea of going up to John O'Groats, it looks gorgeous, but I don't like the idea of taking a tour bus and just having to turn around pretty much once we get there.

I'm a solo female traveler, and I won't be renting a car, public transit only. Are there any (beautiful hiking) places closer than John O'Groats, accessible by public transit, where I can dramatically stare out over the sea and feel the wind in my hair? Cliffs or higher overlooks a bonus. Within 2 hours trip, one-way. I don't mind walking a mile or two if transit doesn't go directly to the destination, as long as it's safe to travel alone.

Dornoch beach might be an option. Or walk to Fort George
