Here is an example:
Barry Goldwater's speech writer, Karl Hess, went all around the political spectrum, as have others. To me it seems in this case that the people stay the same, but the options that are presented change how they operate. Part of this is how the left of old is the new right and so on.
This begs the question, how do we stay consistent in our beliefs while not sliding into movements that are "the last remnant of the old"? I have noticed as time goes on a lot of options with things (political or not) have shifted or completely gone away, so many coping tactics or ways of dealing with things are off the table and the only options in many cases seem to be the "sanctioned options", if that makes sense. Or you may think something is lame because it is not as forceful as you would like in making an argument about something, but it is the only option, even if it is worn down. It could also just being getting older, but it just seems like there is a large push for conformity and distilling things and not a broader range of ideas and such. Again this is not to push one side of the envelope or the other, just that alternatives (whether it be political, cultural, socially, or economically) are getting smaller. The one small exception might be the blockchain, but I fear that might be assimilated soon too, if it has not already been.
