I was thinking of various times throughout my life when a choice was criticized as impractical. Oh you don't need a gun that big (never mind it is probably easier for a child or someone to mess around with a hand gun than a rifle and get shot), you don't need to buy a plane (I fucking hate the TSA and hate the arbitrariness of market demand that dictate how, when, and where I want to fly. Yes I might need to wait a few years),and oh the market is going to crash (never mind buy when there is blood in the streets and buy with a margin of safety). It just seems like people don't know what the hell they are talking about. Also I think for INTJs (I will at least say for myself) that I think over an ideas for 5 years before I pull the trigger on something. I know with the case of the plane it is a bit expensive ($20-30k), but how is that much different than new cars that cost 30-50k? Also if you add in gas some planes can average 30mpg (assuming they are a smaller plane).
These things seem relatively tame compared to spending 100k on degrees in underwater basket weaving.
