Today, I had an interview on Zoom for a Project Management position. It was with 5 members of the office but none of them would be working with the new Project Manager regularly.
They asked me two questions and then the hiring manager went on for more than several minutes telling us all the nittiest grittiest details about the responsibilities of someone taking this position. I could barely get a word in.
The questions were: Tell us about a problem you encountered and how you dealt with it. Also, what excites you about the position?
Then, I asked a few questions and it felt like the interview was winding down. There were only 5 minutes left so 4 out of 5 people left. The hiring manager asked me so why did you leave your last position? It was because we built a house and moved.
I expressed my strong interest in the position and she started talking about the office being hybrid and telling me where I would sit in the office. She also said that second round candidates should hear back by next week. She said that I had the experience the position requires.
To kill the silence at the end, I did that dumb thing and asked a horrible question. Do you have any concerns about my ability to do the job? She knew I was nervous and breezed over that and asked me about my technical skills.
Then, I thanked her and we logged off.
Did I bomb this first round? Can I redeem myself with personalized thank you notes?
