What do my SO and I need to discuss before moving in together?
Post Body

I've been with my amazing boyfriend for just over a year, but he and I were best friends before that. We've talked about it a lot, and within the next six months, he and I want to start looking for an apartment where we can live together. Exciting, right?

I've lived by myself before in college apartments, but somehow have always ended up with crazy roommates. This isn't a matter of "if you're always stuck with bad roommates, look in a mirror" -- my past roommates have ranged from complete slobs to kleptomaniacs, and after my last roommate took a pair of scissors to our third roommate's computer charger and bedspread, I moved home with my mother to save money (and escape a psychopath). My boyfriend, on the other hand, has never lived away from home (we're only 23, so I don't think this is odd).

Basically, we both know that we want to be together long-term, and we both want to live together, but we don't know what we need to discuss before this process begins. Not arbitrary stuff, like what color our dishtowels are, but financial stuff and other things related with co-habitation. Ideally, I'll compile a list and we can run through topics and discuss everything we need to know/do before we make the decision to start living together. Can you help us, Reddit?
