...how can I support my parent's friends' kid better?
My fiance said to post here for ideas. Let me elaborate:
My (26F) parents (69M and 64F) drink quite often. I can't move out because they're my legal carers due to disability.
Their friends come over here to drink, with a child (8F) that often hangs out in my room.
Their parties often turn loud and aggressive. I try to distract the kid because I grew up living through my parents' parties and developed C-PTSD due to it.
I feel incredibly sad for the little girl because I can see the distress she goes through. I usually let her watch movies on my tablet and play on my switch. When it gets loud I turn on music.
I'm just unsure if there's anything else I can do? I grew up with nobody there. I was completely alone and I don't want this child to have to sit through those parties alone. I am trying to make the difference nobody made for me.
Do you have any advice?
